DIY coasters

My first project was coasters for my Mom on Mother's Day!!

These were a great gift because you can customize them and they are cheap!!

I got the 5 tiles from Home Depot for a grand total of 2.00 dollars!! :)

The fabric I found on sale at Joann Fabrics for about 8.00 dollars - however, I have enough fabric leftover to make probably 5 or 6 coasters of each color.

I bought some mod podge gloss along with clear acrylic sealer. I found felt for 50 cents to add to the back of the coasters.

To make the coasters, I began with adding mod podge to the tile. Next I added the fabric and used 2-3 coats of mod podge directly on top of the fabric, allowing 10-15 minutes in between to dry/harden. Once the fabric was dry, I sprayed the acrylic sealer on top.

I waited 1 day to use the felt on the back of the coaster. I used the mod podge on the back of the tile, placed the felt, then another 2-3 coats on top of the felt. I wouldn't recommend this because the tiles do get semi-stuck together at times. If they are never stacked, it is perfect though! For the future, I think I would use a super glue on the tile before placing the felt. This way the felt stays smooth and will not stick to other coasters.

All in all, I had a lot of fun making these!! I felt very crafty and I was able to give my Mom a customized house warming present! :)
