Everyday Seed Stitch Cowl

Hi everyone!!

My inspiration for this cowl was my grandma <3 I had knitted a scarf I posted previously that was more styled for a man to wear. She told me she was wearing it all the time so I decided to make her a cowl she could wear around the house.

This scarf is the perfect length - it can be wrapped twice close up around the neck. The best part is it only requires ONE SKEIN of yarn!!! Talk about cheap and easy to knit!! :)

I cast on 115 stitches. I have a small frame (only 5'1") so in the future, I will be casting on 101 stitches. However, it is still close to the neck how I would want it. For seed stitch, you can cast on any ODD number of stitches. So this can be adjusted to be made bigger or smaller, depending on your preference.

I used Deborah Norville Chunky serenity yarn in the color Pristine. This can be found at JoAnn Fabric. I swear by going there - they always have 40% off coupons and other specials so yarn is super cheap and they have a great selection!

I used size 11 needles on a circular cord (length doesn't really matter).

Cast on 115 stitches (or preferred length)

Knit in seed stitch pattern - row 1: k1, p1 and row 2: p1,k1

Bind off in pattern. I knit until I got to the end of the skein and it was perfect!!

The finished length is 24 inches as seen in the bottom picture and the width is 5 inches.

Knit baby headband

Hi knitters!! One of my coworkers is having a baby and nothing is cuter than a baby wearing something knitted!

It is a great way to give a personal gift to someone (and cheap!).

My coworker's theme for her nursery was lavender so I picked up some lavender yarn at JoAnn Fabric. The yarn I chose was size 3 weight since baby knit patterns often call for smaller yarn.

I adapted this pattern for a baby off of the pattern I previously listed for an adult headband. Since most of the headbands call for chunky or super bulky yarn, I held the yarn doubled for this pattern.

1. Start by holding yarn doubled (size 3 doubled)

2. I used size 10 or 10.5 knitting needles. I like to knit on circular needles no matter how small the pattern is :)

3. Cast on 10 stitches

4. Work in seed stitch for 14 inches... I got 14 inches based off the average circumference of a newborn's head, which is 14! You can adjust the pattern based on size accordingly for older children or adults.

5. Bind off and seam the 2 ends together using a tapestry needle.
6. Create the knot by winding the yarn around the seam until the knot is the desired width.

Here is her adorable baby girl!!!!! She is about 1 month old in this picture! I also knitted up the baby turban too! Now that I know the pattern I created will fit a newborn, I will be posting it on the blog soon! :)

Knit Turban/headband

Hi everyone!! Sorry I have not been posting but I have been knitting a lot of different things and I am finally going to start putting them on my blog!

So I definitely have been loving the "turban" headband for this winter. I found a free pattern from pinterest. Here is the direct link

I had some leftover size 5 bulky weight yarn that I used for this pattern. I did use size 10 needles and followed the pattern.
The yarn I used was Lion Brand Wool Ease Chunky

1. Cast on 12 stitches... the pattern says using double-cast on. I used a regular cast on and the headband came out perfectly fine.
2. To create seed stitch
                  a. row 1: k1, p1
                  b. row 2: p1, k1
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until desired length to wrap snug around your head!
I didn't exactly measure because I used my head to measure when to stop knitting :) However, the next time I make one, I will measure before I bind off! This turban requires less than one skein of yarn!! :)

3. I did the bind-off in pattern and then just seamed the ends together using a tapestry needle. Then you just put yarn around the seam to your liking of how big you want the "knob" in the front. I cut the end and again weaved the end through the back of the knob so I knew it wouldn't get unwound.

This is a really quick knit and super cute!!

Kim Kardashian Slouchy Beanie

This beanie, which I found from iKnits is amazing. It is super girly and so warm. I knit it up using less than one skein!! I have enough yarn leftover to make some bracelets or a headband, it is GREAT!!

For my yarn I used Wool-Ease Worsted Weight (size 4) from Lion Brand. It was super cheap and I had leftover yarn from my ONE SKEIN!! :)

Braided Cable Bracelet

Hi everyone! So I loved the bracelet I made on my last post but I wanted to make one with a more braided look. I found a pattern on the blog http://sascha-lovetoknit.blogspot.nl/2012/09/kabelarmbanden-breien-met-patroon.html

The pattern for the bracelet is
Cast on 11 stitches. I used size 8 needles and size 4 worsted weight yarn. This needs to be knitted straight so remember to turn your work over after every row! This can be done on circular needles as long as you turn your work over! :)
** She says to use cotton yarn, which I agree would make the bracelet have that "clean" look to it but any yarn works! :)
Row 1. knit 11
Row 2. Purl 11
Row 3. Knit 1, c6f, knit 4
Row 4. Purl 11
Row 5. Knit 11
Row 6. Purl 11
Row 7. Knit 4, c6b, knit 1
Row 8. Purl 11

Repeat rows 1-8 until you get the desired length. The best bind off is the kitchener stitch, which I finally learned!! Let me say, it is extremely useful for bracelets - I can't even tell where the seam is!! It's amazing!!

Large Cabled Bracelet

I used size 4 worsted weight yarn with size 8 knitting needles

The pattern is made by casting on 8 stitches
Row 1: knit
Row 2: purl
Row 3: k1, c6f or c6b, k1
Row 4: purl
Row 5: knit
Row 6: purl

In the video, she did a Kitchener bind off. I haven't learned that yet so I did a normal bind off and stitched the ends together using a tapestry needle.

I also made a version by casting on 14 stitches so the bracelet was larger like a bangle. The pattern is also used in repeats of 6 rows.
Row 1: knit
Row 2: purl
Row 3: k1, c6b, c6b, k1
Row 4: purl
Row 5: knit
Row 6: purl

I prefer the thicker bracelet and it looks pretty awesome!! :)

Unisex Scarf

Hi everyone! I have finally completed another one of my knitting projects. My boyfriend asked me to make him a plain black scarf. I searched the internet and came across the Montana Scarf from LoopKnits.

For this pattern I used size 4 worsted weight yarn about 300 yards.
- size 10.5 knitting needles
- I knit this scarf straight using circular needles... just remember to turn your work over for every row!! :)

The pattern:
1. Begin by casting on 42 stitches... or any multiple of 6 to achieve your desired width
2. Row 1 is k1 p1 (repeat until the end)
3. Row 2 is k3 p3 (repeat until the end)
4. Bind off in a normal k1 p1 and weave in ends!

** Measurements**
- Using my pattern, the scarf is 7 inches width by 58 inches length. Since the scarf has ribbing, the width stretches up to 14 inches.

I love this pattern, it is so beautiful and after I was done making it, I decided I really liked it!! I would definitely recommend this scarf for boys and girls! :)

Update!! I made this scarf again using size 4 worsted weight yarn and I cast on more stitches to make the scarf wider. The scarf wasn't as long as before but I used leftover yarn that I had! Just showing you guys how pretty this pattern truly is!!
